Geometry Analysis of Harmonic Gear with Cycloidal Cogs and Interaction Forces

Main principles of the geometry analysis algorithm are presented for harmonic gear with cycloidal cogs. A comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of harmonic mechanisms with cycloidal and involute cog forms is conducted. It was shown that high performance of cycloidal form is caused by more than threefold excess of the cog spacing above its depth. It allows to increase drastically the fatigue endurance of the flexible cog crowns, and to decline lower threshold of the gear ratio more than twofold. Practical expediency of cycloidal cogs application in harmonic mechanisms is confirmed.
