The paper shows the results of studies carried out to improve the performance of high-loaded gear wheels from heat-resistant carburized steel 13X3HВМ2Ф-Ш. Within the research we revealed the main regularities of changes in the substructure and surface properties determining contact fatigue and other operational properties. As a result, we give some recommendations on the choice of diffusion saturation regimes for ensuring wear resistance, contact fatigue, bending resistance. Findings of the research show that the efficiency of heat-resistant steel hammering is manifested after additional low-temperature tempering
