The comparative data on operational fuel efficiency of the off-road vehicles with gas-turbine engines and diesels are examined. The possibilities to reduce the fuel consumption of these vehicles under different operating conditions, including the idling, are shown. The en-route fuel consumption of vehicles largely depends on the operating conditions and average load of the engine. The fuel consumption is greatly influenced by duration of idling, braking, and low-load regimes (below 40-50% of the maximum capacity). To reduce high fuel consumptions of gas-turbine vehicles (relative to a diesel) in these regimes is almost impossible, and so the work of gas-turbine vehicles in regimes of low loads and when they are parked has to be ensured by using energy storages. The calculations show the possibility to reduce by 20-50% the en-route fuel consumption in operation of a gas-turbine vehicle with the use of energy storages depending on the traffic conditions.
